Impermanence [All Things Are Impermanent]
무상
All compounded phenomena, including
materiality and the mind, are in a state of constant flux and therefore not
permanent. This is referred to as “impermanence (annica)” in Buddhism. This
means that human beings are born and grow old, get sick and die. In addition,
all phenomena are impermanent because all things arise, exist and cease in
relation to other things. All beings in the cycle of dependent arising are
impermanent and always in a state of continual change.
"Bhikkhus! All phenomenal things are impermanent and have the
nature of ceasing upon arising. Things are not solid and have no substance.
There is neither ultimate dimension nor enjoyable aspects in phenomena. Thus,
bhikkhus should persevere in their practice and seek liberation."
