Jogyesa’s Newest and Littlest Monks Met Ven. Jaseung, the President of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism

Marking the upcoming Buddha’s birthday, 8 child monks, Bonyeon, Seongyeon, Daseon, Damun, Seonhoe, Cheonghyu, Jeongyeon and Cheongan, who joined Jogyesa’s “Bodhi Tree Sapling School: Children Becoming Buddhist Monks” program, visited the Headquarters of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism on April 20.

The children gave Ven. Jaseung, the President of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, a painting they painted with their handwriting which reads “President of the Jogye Order, we love you” and a flowerpot. Ven. Jaseung gave the children prayer beads, sketchbooks and dolls, calling them “baby Buddhas, mischievous Buddhas”. The child monks lined up swiftly upon hearing that Ven. Jaseung will give cookies to them, making all around them laugh.

Jogyesa’s littlest monks will serve as goodwill ambassadors to make Buddhism more easily accessible to citizens and boost festive ambience of the Buddha’s birthday celebration by participating in the Lotus Lantern Festival, Korea’s National Intangible Cultural Property No. 122, until the Buddha’s birthday (the eighth day of the fourth moon) which falls on May 3 this year.
